A decision on Lambton County's draft Official Plan has been delayed again -- and isn't expected now until the fall.
County council voted Wednesday to send the document, which outlines county policy for land use as well as environmental, social and economic matters, back to the original review committee.
Enniskillen Township Mayor Kevin Marriott says it's important they have a document people are happy with.
"I think we have 80% of a plan that will make people happy and we still have an official plan in place that's working," says Marriott. "It will probably never be at 100%, but the closer we can get and hopefully avoid going to the Ontario Municipal Board... I think if we can do any of those things to avoid going there then I think it will be better for everybody involved. It is one of the most important documents that's going to affect us in the years to come."
Marriott says the committee will report back at the July 5 meeting with suggestions on how to proceed over the next three months.
"The people in the county that are opposed to it now, don't fully understand some of the improvements that we made this past while on the committee," he says. "So, it's partly an education process as well as tweaking the draft Official Plan."
Over 700 people have now signed a legal letter, in which the group "Concerned Landowners Legal Defence" has identified specific sections to be changed before the draft Official Plan is passed.
