Huron House Boys' Home Fundraiser Returns For 31st Year

A Father's Day tradition spanning three decades continues this Sunday, as the Huron House Boys' Home Run, Walk, Skate and Bike returns for another year.

The run has grown to include a 5 k and 10 k certified race, as well as a 20 k or 40 k bike ride.

Facility Executive Director Don Adam says those bike rides are for everyone, not just hard-core cyclists.

"It is a ride, it's not a race. In fact, because of the construction there will be a couple spots where we need to give precedent to the timed runners," says Adams. "As a result there will be a couple spots along the routes with stop signs where cyclist will have to stop and wait for the runners."

If you're still looking to register, you can do some online until 10pm on Friday. You can also register in person at Sports Chek Friday or Saturday.

Last year's event raised $25,000 and they are hoping for similar numbers this year. Adam says if they are successful, they will combine the totals with the proceeds from McHappy Day to purchase a new roof for the home.

The Huron House Boys' Home has been providing residential care and treatment for troubled teenage boys since 1970.
