Sarnia police are investigating after significant damage was done to new grass at Centennial Park.
Around 3am Friday, a vehicle drove into the park off Harbour Rd., creating deep tire ruts in the field.
Sarnia Parks and Recreation Director Rob Harwood says city staff are working hard to fix the grass.
He's confident this weekend's Kinsmen Ribfest will go off without a hitch.
"It was a newly seeded area so, of course, we're going to have to apply some more top soil material and reseed some of the areas that have been damaged," says Harwood. "It'll come back of course but it sets us back every time someone does something foolish like that."
Harwood says they're developing a plan to repair the damage more permanently once Ribfest is over.
Wind gusts during thunderstorms at around midnight also caused damage.
Sarnia Kinsmen Club spokesman Jack Struck says five tents were twisted and damaged, and some fencing torn up.
Despite the setbacks, he says it's full speed ahead for Ribfest Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"We're still ready to go and come hell or high water we're going," says Struck.
No damage estimate was immediately available.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
