Funding Received For Hospital Infrastructure Upgrades

Bluewater Health is getting $1.2-million from the Ontario government for infrastructure upgrades at its Sarnia and Petrolia sites.

Director of Facilities Alex Sullo says they'll be replacing boilers and chillers, and upgrading security systems.

He says they've been fortunate to take advantage of provincial funding since 1999.

"We do the procurement processes for all our services, some things are seasonal," says Sullo. "Chillers are best done during the winter, where boilers are best done during summer. We are kicking it off and will have the money spent by the end of this fiscal year, which is March 31 of next year."

Wallaceburg's Sydenham District Hospital is getting $1.8-million.

The money can be used to upgrade or replace roofs, windows, heating and air conditioning, fire alarms, and back-up generators.

Overall, the province is spending $175-million on hospital upgrades this year under the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
