City Building Permits Down In July

Sarnia construction activity took a break in July.

City hall issued 58 building permits worth just over $7-million, about $1-million more than July 2016, but a far cry from this June where $14-million in permits were issued.

A $1-million permit was issued for a new building at 543-547 Exmouth St., where a few dental offices are currently located.

The city also issued a $700,000 permit to build a new house at 2172 London Line.

The previous residence on the property was burned to the ground in June by the Sarnia Fire and Rescue Service as part of a training exercise.

There were nine permits issued for single family homes in July for a seven-month total of 66.

The year-to-date pace is running $16-million ahead of last year at $58.2-million, thanks in large part to Lambton College's expansion project.
