Gladu Appointed Health Critic In Conservative Shadow Cabinet

Sarnia-Lambton's MP has a new role in the Conservative Party shadow cabinet.

Marilyn Gladu has been appointed as the critic for health by leader Andrew Scheer.

Gladu says she's already planning meetings with key members of the health community in addition to overseeing her palliative care bill through its final stage of review in the Senate.

"There's a lot of critical legislation that is being looked at right now," says Gladu. "We've got the cannabis legislations, of course there's the opioid crisis, my palliative care bill is hopefully going to pass through the senate and then there's a lot of mental health focus. Suicide is a crisis situation in the country. Those are some of the things that are top of mind for me as I start this new challenge."

Gladu's palliative care private members bill defines services and training requirements and a plan to create consistent access for all Canadians.

MP Gladu previously served as the critic for science under interim-leader Rona Ambrose.

Veteran Lambton-Kent Middlesex MP Bev Shipley, who previously served as critic of rural affairs, was bumped from the list.
