Another Meeting To Discuss Full-Time Fire Chief In Lambton Shores

The proposed appointment of a full-time fire chief who would oversee five volunteer fire stations in Lambton Shores will be discussed again on September 5.

The proposal stoked flames of discontent at a special meeting earlier this month when some councillors asked for further information and said more consultation with the five local chiefs is needed.

Mayor Bill Weber says they listened to those complaints.

"There will be more discussion with the chiefs at that meeting," says Weber. "I believe it's a positive move. It will keep everyone on a level playing field with training and record keeping. I think that's the benefit for our volunteers. They do an excellent job fighting fires and this would help them with all the paperwork and all the legal and follow-up that needs to be done."

Weber adds they are one of the last municipalities in the area with more than one station that does not have a full-time chief.
