The future of Sarnia’s Mall Rd. library is uncertain.
Sarnia council opted to sign a three-year lease for the current location, rather then the recommended ten-year lease, to keep options open.
Consultants recently recommended doubling the size of the Mall Rd. branch.
In a report to council Monday, City Solicitor Scott McEachran said that 1,200 sq ft space directly beside the library has come available, but warned that it would cost 50% more rent.
Council was advised that the money would be better spent on capital improvements to the downtown library branch.
