Teddy Bear Toss Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The bears will fly again during the annual Teddy Bear Toss game next month.

The Sarnia Sting and Lambton Ford officially launched this years campaign, which helps about 15 local children's agencies including the Salvation Army, Pathways Health Centre for Children and the Women's Interval Home fill their Christmas wish lists.

Lambton Ford President Rob Ravensberg says as they mark the 20th anniversary of the event, they're hoping for record breaking year and have set a goal of 4,000 teddy bears.

"At the same time, being able to throw something on the ice without getting thrown out of the game, that's kind of neat, it doesn't normally happen and then to know when you throw that stuffed toy on the ice where it's going and how you've helped the community," says Ravensberg. "One thing I've learned from the Salvation Army is that there's so many children that don't get a new gift at Christmas, and with this -- they do."

Fans will toss Teddy Bears onto the ice surface when the Sarnia Sting take on the Oshawa Generals Sunday, December 3 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Ravensberg says those who can't attend the game can drop off their donations at Lambton Ford, as well as here at Blackburn Radio.

Over the last 19 years over 55,000 stuffed toys have been collected for area children in need.
