Sarnia council committed its multi-million dollar share to the oversize load corridor project Monday, with no discussion.
The city's $4.715-million commitment joins a $1.2-million commitment from the County of Lambton, a $75,000 pledge from St. Clair Township and $10,000 from the Sarnia-Lambton Industrial Alliance.
Sarnia's Director of Finance Lisa Armstrong says it had to be approved before the federal government would even consider matching the funds.
"The city was invited to move onto the next step of a National Trade Corridor Fund grant application and so we are submitting that application," says Armstrong. "We don't anticipate we will hear back until spring."
The permanent corridor to truck industrial modules through the city to Sarnia Harbour is estimated to cost $12-million and is expected to be of huge benefit to local industry in various sectors.
