College Students Fighting Back

A first year paramedic student at Lambton College is encouraging other students to join a class action lawsuit over Ontario's ongoing college strike.

The legal action, filed by law firm Charney Lawyers, has been launched on behalf of students affected by the labour dispute.

Jade Flay says she offered to be the local representative, because she feels like their education commitment from the college has been broken.

"They're not delivering the education that we paid for in the time frame that we agreed to," says Flay. "What we are actually suing for is a breach in contract. We would like a refund and compensation."

She says there's no way original obligations to the course outline can be fulfilled.

"Me being a paramedic, I don't feel comfortable walking into any placement that I'm supposed to be going to because I haven't learned the whole course outline yet," says Flay.

The lawsuit seeks full refunds for students who choose not to continue with their programs and refunds equivalent to the value of the lost instruction for those who wish to continue.
