Work underway on the northend of Imperial Oil's Sarnia site will significantly change the physical look of the property.
Spokesperson Jon Harding says after years spent decomissioning what the company calls "area one", demolition work is underway at 602 Christina St. south.
"It's the area of our operation where we had manufactured and then blended and packaged finished lubricants for a long, long time," says Harding. "The manufacturing ended in 2010 and then the blending and packaging operation ended in 2012."
He says over the next few years facilities and equipment will be dismantled, adding that future plans for the site remain unknown.
"We do not plan to market the property for sale, we don't have current expansion plans of our operations to that area, but we do have plans to make use of that property for the existing chemical and refining operations."
Sarnia city hall issued 13 demolition permits to Imperial in October, totalling just over $2.2-million.
