Architects and contractors have told the Lambton Kent District School Board they're still on track for a September opening of the new Great Lakes High School on Murphy Rd.
Superintendent Gary Girardi says although the cold weather and snow hasn't been helpful during the construction process, work on the addition and renovations to the existing portion of the building are well underway.
"If you were to drive by the site, you would see that we have lots of work done in terms of the groundwork for the addition of the theatre and we have staff and crews inside the building as well," says Girardi.
Along with the new auditorium, an indigenous community room is being built and there will be updated classrooms and accessibility improvements.
The school board received a $10.3-million capital investment from the Ministry of Education toward the $23.4-million project.
