Petrolia Man Decorated For Bravery

A former Oil Springs firefighter has received one of the highest civilian honours in Canada.

Governor General Julie Payette presented Petrolia resident Terry May with a Medal of Bravery at a ceremony in Toronto Tuesday.

April 6, 2016, May went into a neighbour's burning house and rescued a woman. He gained access through the kitchen door, crawled inside through heavy, black smoke and located the unconscious victim on the floor. May dragged the woman back toward the doorway to safety.

The bravery medal is given to those who try to save another person without thinking of their own safety.
