Money is needed to help create a centre for homeless and at-risk youth in Sarnia-Lambton.
Preferred Towing Owners Tammy and Gary Vandenheuvel purchased the former ABC Daycare on London Rd. and are looking to transform the space into transitional housing for youth aged 16 to 24.
Tammy says it's not cheap to renovate the site, and they're asking the public for assistance.
"We estimate the entire project to cost about $1.3-million," Tammy says. "We are trying to get some funding through the government's "Home For Good" grant, but we do also have a GoFundMe page currently on our website."
Tammy says Ontario Works helps youth in paying the monthly rent which can range from $650 to $790.
"They are capped at affordable housing rates, which is 80% below market value. So we're hoping to take the rent that we collect to help fund the building, including heating, taxes and landscaping."
The seven apartment units will house up to ten youth at one time.
