A support group for families struggling with mental health is coming to the Sarnia area.
Parents for Children's Mental Health Ontario will launch a Sarnia chapter later this spring in collaboration with St. Clair Child and Youth and the Lambton Family Advisory Committee.
St. Clair Child and Youth Executive Director Craig McKenzie says the initiative will help address an issue that affects a lot of Sarnia families.
"The need that was identified loud and clear to us, particularly over the last two years, has been for families to have more support," says McKenzie. "The chapter will probably offer a weekly drop-in session for family members where they can go and receive support from other family members."
Last year St. Clair Child and Youth served over 5,000 families in Lambton community. McKenzie says this support group is the second phase of their community family engagement strategy.
"Late 2017 we launched the Lambton family initiative which has family members meeting at the organization once a month," he says. "They're involved and engaged in the system planning levels and they have a hand in how we provide service at St. Clair."
The chapter will be hosting an open house May 10 at the Youth Services building on Kendall St in Point Edward. For more information, you can visit www.stclairchild.ca.
