This year marks the 45th annual Lambton County Science Fair that will be held April 13 and 14 at the Lambton College gym.
Spokesman Peter Smith says last year over 100 students presented 75 projects, the quality of which is outstanding.
"In the last few years we had a project on nuclear fusion," says Smith. "Last year we had one on a non-evasive glucose measure for diabetics. We've had projects on ion drives that you would use for deep space travel. We've also had a lot of medical devices. One was a pump for patients recovering from heart attacks. They're just amazing. I think I know a bit of science but every year there's a student that just blows my mind."
A total of $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to winners in four categories with the winners in the intermediate and senior grades eligible to go to the Canada Wide Science Fair in May in Ottawa.
Smith says the Fair wouldn't be possible without the support from the community. Every year about 75 judges talk to the students about their projects and help in awarding prizes.
