City Firefighters Handle Unattended Cooking Call

Sarnia firefighters responded to a fire on Tuesday afternoon they say was caused by unattended cooking.

A resident walking in the 200-block of Maxwell St. heard smoke alarms and saw smoke coming from a home.

Firefighters got to the scene quickly and were able to keep damage to a minimum. They soon discovered the cause was related to cooking being left unattended.

Crews were able to vent the smoke from the home which was unoccupied at the time.

Unattended or unsafe cooking is the number one cause of house fires.
