Sarnia Fire and Rescue and Sarnia police responded to a deck fire at a townhouse in the 300-block of Indian Rd. Wednesday afternoon.
The residents of the home, who were inside at the time, were alerted to the fire by passers-by.
Firefighters say they were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze to prevent it from spreading to attached homes.
They say a pair of couches and a chair were destroyed on the deck.
Smoke made it into the residence and an occupant was taken to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
No damage estimate or cause has been released.
