Air Quality Statement Issued

Another hot and sunny day has prompted a special air quality statement from Environment Canada.

Higher levels of air pollution are expected Monday afternoon.

The national weather agency says light winds and stagnating weather conditions are expected to cause increased levels of ground ozone.

Sarnia, Grand Bend and Port Stanley will likely see moderate risk AQI values with the potential of high-risk values, that may persist for several hours.

Those with asthma and COPD can be particularly sensitive to air pollution which can aggravate lung diseases.

In the meantime, the agency suggests anyone experiencing symptoms like coughing or throat irritation should consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the special air quality statement is lifted.
