Sarnia Firefighters Battle Two Structure Fires

Sarnia firefighters battled both a house fire on Cathcart Blvd. and a blaze that broke out in a residential high-rise Friday night.

Crews responded at about 9pm to a single family detached home on Cathcart Blvd. near Indian Rd.

On arrival firefighters encountered heavy smoke and high heat conditions inside the four level split home. Four pets were removed from the home but died of smoke inhalation. No other injuries are reported. Damage to the building and its contents are estimated at $200,000. The cause of the blaze is listed as undetermined at this time. While still on site, a second structure fire was reported at a residential high-rise on Finch Dr.

Smoke was visible coming from windows on the sixth floor. Crews made an interior attack and were able to restrict the fire to one unit. Damage was estimated at $30,000 and the cause was determined to be unattended cooking.
