The cause of two house fires in the 200 block of Kathleen Ave. has been listed as undetermined. Sarnia firefighters arrived on scene between East St. and Russell St. shortly after 3:30am Tuesday morning and didn't clear the scene until 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. They say they couldn't get into one of the homes until a chimney was knocked down and hot spots extinguished. Both homes sustained extensive damage with the loss estimated at $450,000 and the Fire Marshall's office and Sarnia Police are investigating. Neighbours say they heard an explosion and a van between the two adjacent homes was destroyed.
They say one elderly well-liked woman had lived in one of the homes for 69 years and lost everything.
Fortunately there were no injuries to either residents or firefighters who had to cope with humidex values in the low 40's.
