Sarnia-Lambton has its first confirmed flu case of the season.
Lambton Public Health Supervisor Erin Courtney said the case was reported at an area retirement home.
She said this just confirms that the flu is in the community, and we can expect to see more cases, especially as we enter the busy holiday season.
"Flu shots are still available at area pharmacies and health care providers," said Courtney. "Make sure to clean your hands and cover your cough and stay home if you're not feeling well."
She said the flu clinics, which have already wrapped up, were well attended this year.
"According to our numbers that we saw at our community clinics, all of our numbers were up," said Courtney. "I know that has to do with the fact that the high dose flu vaccine, available for those 65 and over, was not available at pharmacies but it was available at health care providers and our community clinics. It is exciting to see that people are getting their flu shot, and getting it early in anticipation for the holiday season."
There were 107 lab-confirmed cases of influenza and three flu-related deaths in Sarnia-Lambton last flu season.
