The city's telephone and email system went offline Friday afternoon.
Chief Administration Officer Margaret Misek-Evans said there's been a failure of older hardware components that are scheduled for replacement.
"We're not able to call, accept calls, or accept emails from the public. You may receive a busy signal if you're trying to call in, and you may receive a notification of non-delivery of your email," she said.
Misek-Evans said IT staff are actively working to restore systems and hope to have telephone and email access restored by the end of the day.
She said emergency services, Sarnia Fire and Sarnia Police, are not affected.
