United Way may miss goal for first time in decades

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is struggling to hit this year's fundraising goal with time running out.

Executive Director Dave Brown said two weeks are left and they're at 80 per cent or $1.6 million of the $2 million target.

"I hesitate to put odds on it, but right now we're very fearful we will not reach goal, and this will be the first time in over 20 years that we haven't," said Brown. "So, we're really hopeful that those outstanding campaigns surprise us and we also continue to get some more positive surprises from other areas that we're not expecting."

The United Way helps fund 19 local agencies including Big Brothers Big Sisters Sarnia-Lambton, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Lambton Elderly Outreach.
