The Lambton Kent District School Board has confirmed a new piece of land is being sought to build the kindergarten to Grade 12 school in Lambton Shores.
Superintendent of Business Brian McKay says they're still working on site selection with the ministry, but have narrowed the search down to one community.
"During the review, Forest was the location that the community was focused on, so we are focused in and around the Forest area," said McKay. "For sure, I can say that would be our number one area for location of the school."
Chatham-area architect, ROA Studio Inc., was awarded the contract to design, tender and build the new school in June and an ad hoc naming committee is being created.
Jane Bryce and Jack Fletcher have been appointed to serve on the committee, but McKay said the first meeting won't be held until the new year.
The provincial government announced 27.4 million in funding last January to build the new school that will see students from Aberarder Central, Bosanquet Central, Kinnwood Central and North Lambton Secondary Schools consolidate.
It will accommodate 1,024 students and an additional 24 child care spaces.
