If it's too cold for you outside, the Sarnia and District Humane Society is reminding everyone that it's likely too cold for pets.
The windchill is forecasted to reach -39 C Wednesday night.
Agent Ryan Sparks said there are a number of signs of frostbite and hypothermia for animals.
"Some dogs are better outside than others, but it's not just a breed thing," said Sparks. "A lot of people think that if you have a Husky or a Malamute or something like that, the dog can be outside no problem. But if they're acclimatized to indoor living, they're not going to be good outside."
Sparks said signs of hypothermia include a weak pulse, decreased heart rate, extreme shivering, and lifting of the paws.
He said it's necessary to provide insulated shelter for your pet if it's going to be outside. If you don't, Sparks said penalties for animal cruelty include up to two years in jail and $60,000 in fines.
