The extreme cold was impacting operations at Shell's Manufacturing Centre in Corunna Thursday.
In an email to Aamjiwnaang First Nation Emergency Planning, spokesperson Bryant Bird said they've been working to "effectively and safely deal with operational upsets."
Bird said an Emergency Operations Centre [EOC] was activated just after 9 a.m. -- as a result of the upsets.
Larger than normal flaring was reported and elevated noise levels were possible.
The company said regular air monitoring was being done and safety precautions and standard regulatory protocols were being followed.
Shell deactivated its EOC at 10:25 a.m. and staff from the manufacturing centre were managing the situation.
