PD Day activities planned at area museums

Friday is a PD Day for students in the Lambton Kent and St. Clair Catholic District School Boards.

If you're looking for something to do with the kids, some area museums are running some special programming.

The Oil Museum of Canada has winter-themed activities planned inside and outside of the museum, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

Education and Program Coordinator Christina Sydorko said it's the first in a series of PD Day events they'll be offering at the museum.

"We're going to try out some indoor curling, or you can borrow some snowshoes from the Oil Museum to try on the museum grounds," said Sydorko. "We also have several crafts going around the museum, that are also based on a winter theme."

She said they'll also be showcasing some interesting artifacts from their collection.

"We have a pair of skates from 1867, so you can see how people played hockey or went to skating parties using some of these old skates and some very old antique sleds," she said.

Admission for children ages 4 to 12 is $3, for students over 12 years old its $4, adults is $5 and family admission is $15.

The Lambton Heritage Museum in Grand Bend has also planned an event -- based on the Disney movie Cars.

Children are asked to bring a box big enough to sit in, to craft into their own car, which will then be used for a makeshift drive-in movie featuring the popular animated film.

That event is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Pre-registration was encouraged.

The event is $3 for children and $5 for adults.
