Sarnia's July 1st birthday bash proceeding as planned

Sarnia's Canada Day celebrations will proceed as planned Monday.

Recreation coordinator Rachel Veilleux says they've been closely monitoring soil conditions at Canatara Park with the wet weather.

"Given the torrential weather we've received, there's actually been no changes," said Veilleux. "We've done thorough reviews of the park and the surrounding areas and everything looks great! We'll make it work again this year."

She said festivities at Canatara get underway at 11 a.m.

"From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m we have our multicultural food booths, our handmade markets, inflatables, face painting, glitter airbrush tattoos and then at 11:30 a.m we have the annual parade that starts at Lakeshore and Colborne Road."

Veilleux said unsupervised bike racks will be available in the park and Sarnia Transit is offering free rides Monday -- with special service to the park.

The Lambton Concert Band will kick off the opening ceremonies at the Canatara Park bandshell at 12:30 p.m.

"The parade winners get announced, there's birthday cake and we have some multicultural performances," she said. "We also have some on stage entertainment in the open field starting at 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Off stage, we have a variety of interactive activities this year, one of which we're super excited for is the Re/Max hot air balloon. So, we'll be giving hot air balloon rides, just up and down, about 40 feet."

Everything shifts to Centennial Park at 6 p.m. with concerts on the Suncor Agora stage.

"We start it out with our Battle of the Bands youth performance winner, then we'll have Aces High performing followed by One Man Out."

Veilleux said One Man Out will perform until the fireworks show at 10 p.m. and then return to the stage after until 11 p.m.
