Ride Sarnia Transit for free on Canada Day

Sarnia Transit is celebrating Canada Day by letting you ride the bus for free.

Superintendent Andrew Savor said they'll have extended service from 8:30 a.m. to midnight and special routes set up to allow everyone to enjoy the festivities.

Savor said there's plenty of advantages to taking the bus around town.

"People can go to events without having to worry about drinking and driving, and there's environmental reasons to take the bus," said Savor. "Also Canada Day events are really well attended, so taking the bus cuts down on traffic congestion and the need to find parking, so hopefully using the bus will make it a more stress-free day for families."

Savor said they typically see quite a few riders on July 1.

"On average we have about 3,700 riders per year on Canada Day. Typically we charge $1 per ride in celebration of the holiday, but Ackwood Auto Parts is sponsoring our Canada Day service [for a second straight year], so we're able to provide free service."

Sarnia Transit is also offering a special shuttle service every 30 minutes between Bayside Mall and Canatara Park from 9:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

The celebration from Canatara Park get going at 11 a.m., the parade starts at 11:30 a.m.
