Young children preparing for the upcoming school year will be able to practice riding the bus this weekend.
Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) is holding a first-time rider orientation day on Saturday morning.
It's geared toward students entering kindergarten and grade one.
CLASS General Manager Kent Orr said the goal is to ease anxiety for students and parents and to encourage safety.
"We provide a safety video with age-appropriate cartoon-based safety information about how to ride the school bus, waiting for the school bus, walking to the school bus, and the danger zone around the bus," said Orr. "We actually do a ride on a bus. We put the parents on the bus with their kid. It gives them a chance to feel and see the school bus and get comfortable with it."
The orientation day is being held from 9 a.m. until noon at the public school board office at 200 Wellington St.
Each session will take about 30 minutes to complete.
A similar event is scheduled at Ursuline College in Chatham.
