London Road intersections most crash-prone in city

The number of crashes is down so far this year in Sarnia, but police are still dealing with distracted and impaired drivers on a regular basis.

Cst. John Sottosanti said in the first six months of 2019, there were 681 collisions reported to police, down from 748 during the same time frame last year.

"Our busiest times were around 4 p.m.," said Sottosanti. "That makes sense, a lot of people are rushing to get home or to pick somebody up after school. There are all kinds of situations where probably inattentiveness and being in a rush to get to where you're going play a factor."

Cst. Sottosanti said between January and June, alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in 18 crashes.

Officers laid 42 impaired driving charges, mainly alcohol-related, between January and July, compared to 26 during the same period in 2018.

The most crash-prone intersection in Sarnia is London Road and Murphy Road, followed by London Road and Lambton Mall Road.
