Mock student vote favours NDP

Unofficial votes by students across Sarnia-Lambton did not mirror the real result in terms of support for the NDP.

Area public and separate high school and elementary students conducted mock votes.

In Sarnia-Lambton 3,724 students cast a replica ballot, electing NDP candidate Adam Kilner with 32.84 per cent of the vote.

Incumbent Conservative candidate Marilyn Gladu was second with 28.25 per cent.

In Lambton-Kent Middlesex, 3,018 students participated in the mock election.

Conservative Lianne Rood was the students' choice, but by a much smaller margin than the real vote.

Students elected Rood with 26.34 per cent of the vote ahead of Dylan McLay who came in a not so distant second with 22.63 per cent.

Student Vote Canada reports over 1.1 million elementary and secondary students in all 338 ridings cast a fake ballot coinciding with the 2019 federal election, after learning about the electoral process, researching the parties and their platforms.
