Lambton Public Health is launching a service that provides seniors in need with free routine dental care.
It's part of the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program.
To qualify, they must be an Ontario resident 65 or older and have an annual net income of $19,300 or less with no access to dental benefits. Couples must have a combined annual net income of $32,300 or less.
Manager of Family Health Kevin Churchill said proper oral health is extremely important to the rest of the body.
"If you don't have good teeth or you're experiencing pain, you're likely not eating a good diet," said Churchill. "So, it can affect your nutrition, and it can have a lot of impacts. It's really important that seniors have proper dental care. We're excited that this program will help those people."
Churchill said there are about 2,000 area seniors that would be eligible for the program.
Services covered include exams, assessments, tooth and cavity repairs, x-rays, anesthesia, and infection and pain treatments.
