United Way seeking boost to hit $1.9M goal

As the Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign nears its end, hope is fading that the $1.9 million target will be reached.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've raised $1.59 million so far -- 83.5 per cent of the goal.

"We are still behind last year's pace," said Brown. "We still have NOVA Chemicals to report their final campaign totals, some of that is in but we are expecting some growth once they announce. There's some other smaller campaigns that are still coming in. Our mailers that we sent out last week are starting to come in. We've already picked up some first-time donors and a couple have actually made a second donation this fall."

For the first time ever, the United Way will be hosting a telethon from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday on YourTV, to help raise funds and educate the public about the organization.

Money raised supports 18 local agencies providing 36 programs and services.

The 2019 fundraising effort officially wraps up on December 31, 2019.
