Mast scores first OHL goal, Sting lose in OT

The Sarnia Sting (15-16-1-0) came up just short in their first overtime game this season.

The Sting lost 5-4 against the Spirit (19-10-2-2) in Saginaw in OHL play on Thursday night.

Captain Ryan McGregor led the attack with a goal and two assists, while Brayden Guy had a goal and an assist.

Ryan Mast scored his first career OHL goal, and Swedish import Eric Hjorth rounded out the scoring.

The game was scoreless after the first period before the Spirit pulled ahead 2-0 with a pair of goals midway through the second frame.

McGregor's goal made it a 2-1 contest after two. Saginaw scored a minute into the third, but the Sting responded with three goals in a four minute span to take a 4-3 lead.

Saginaw tied the game under a minute later, and sealed the victory in overtime.

Cole Perfettti dished out three assists for the Spirit, while Mason Millman, Jake Goldowski, Dalton Duhart, Danny Katic and Damien Giroux all scored.

Sting goalie Ethan Langevin stopped 40 of 45 shots. Marshall Frappier turned aside 27 of 31 shots in the Saginaw crease.

The Sting sit last in the Western Conference with 31 points, just seven back of fourth place London. Saginaw is tied for first place with the Guelph Storm with 42 points.

The Sting are back on the ice on Friday night at home to the Windsor Spitfires in their last game before holiday break.
