The Bluewater Anglers annual February ice fishing derby has been cancelled for the third time in four years.
The board of directors made the decision during a meeting Wednesday night.
Spokesperson Ron Allison said ice conditions on Sarnia Bay are not safe.
"We've left it very close to ice fishing derby because we wanted to see if the ice was going to come around, but after discussion, we decided that we had better cancel it due to the condition of the ice," said Allison. "So we, unfortunately, had to cancel it, the ice was all honeycombed, and with the changing weather, it's very hard to predict.
Allison says last year's event had a record number of participants with 300 tickets being sold.
The 2018 derby was the first since 2015 because of poor ice conditions.
He says their next big event is the hatchery open house on March 16.
