Suspension notices in the mail

Around 2,800 area students are facing suspension from school in March.

Lambton Public Health's Dr. Erin Courtney said they're sending out notices to parents with children in elementary school and high school starting Friday, January 3.

Dr. Courtney said if immunization records aren't updated, the student won't be allowed at school.

"Suspension day is set for March 3, 2020," said Courtney. "Sometimes all we need is the information from their health care provider that they received the vaccination or that they have the record updated."

Lambton Public Health said the records include immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, mumps, rubella, measles, meningitis, whooping cough and chickenpox for children born in 2010 or later.

Dr. Courtney said parents can update records online at www.lambtonpublichealth.ca by phone at 519-383-8331 or in person at the Exmouth Street health unit -- she also said parents are able to apply for an exemption.

Last March, 325 students were suspended from school due to outdated vaccination information.
