Mostly rain expected in Sarnia-Lambton from weekend storm

A significant winter storm expected this weekend is likely to be mostly a rain event for Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada has a special weather statement in effect for southern Ontario.

Meteorologist Ryan Rozinskis said 25 millimetres to 50 millimetres, one to two inches, is possible in the Sarnia area Saturday with freezing rain and snow elsewhere.

"That's pretty much starting Saturday during the day and carrying on all the way into Sunday, and maybe looking at some flurries into the latter part of Sunday as the system departs."

Significant ice build-up is possible in some areas, and significant snowfall amounts east of Georgian Bay.

The weather agency said there's still uncertainty as to which areas will be most impacted and the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre is closely monitoring the approaching low-pressure system.

Warnings may be issued later this week.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate Saturday into Sunday.
