UPDATE: Snow Saturday, snow squalls Sunday

A snowfall warning was in effect Saturday for Sarnia-Lambton.

Snow, heavy at times continued into Saturday afternoon, with total amounts near 15 centimetres, six inches, expected across Sarnia-Lambton and southwestern Ontario.

Strong southeasterly winds were whipping up the freshly fallen snow causing very low visibility at times in blowing snow, mostly Saturday morning.

The snow tapered off to a mixture of showers and wet flurries Saturday afternoon south of a line from Grand Bend to St. Marys.

North of the line the snow was expected to turn over briefly to a mix of wet flurries and showers early Saturday evening.

As cold arctic air returns again by Sunday, snow squalls in a brisk northwesterly flow off of Lake Huron are expected to affect the region beginning Sunday morning.

Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch Saturday night. According to the weather agency, the snow squalls are forecast to continue through the early part of Sunday before weakening and moving south of the area late Sunday afternoon. The strong northwest winds gusting up to 60 or 70 km/h will also result in localized blowing snow with the snow squalls."

Use extra caution while travelling.

Saturday morning Highway 402 was described as snow covered with reduced visibility from Nauvoo Road to London.

Highway 40 and and Highway 21 north were also snow covered as well as Sarnia streets.

Sarnia Transit was advising of possible delays on all routes Saturday. -With files from Dave Dentinger
