Lambton OPP say a report of a vicious mugging earlier this week in Petrolia, was false.
Police said they responded April 7 at 2:40 a.m. to the 4000 block of Petrolia Line.
The victim walking on Petrolia Line, reportedly was approached by two suspects on a bike, and struck several times with a pipe.
The victim's wallet was allegedly taken.
OPP said Thursday that "further investigation revealed false allegations had been made."
Police said further updates will be provided when and if they become available.
