The staff at an Alvinston public school will be canvasing the community Saturday afternoon to collect non-perishable items for the local food bank.
Brooke Central Principal Chad Brown said they were inspired by the Chatham-Kent May 16 Miracle to do something for their Lambton County community as well.
"It was suggested that perhaps we could help out with a local food bank in Alvinston and fill up their cupboards and go around collecting food for our food bank, but also being able to see some of our students through the windows and from their front porch and that's what we're hoping for, we're really excited about it."
Brown said residents can leave items on their front porch area for staff to pickup, starting at noon. He also said a curbside drop off on the sidewalk in front of the Alvinston library will be available from 12:00-3:00 p.m.
"We didn't want our families going out to pickup a lot of items for this food drive, so we mentioned that one item per household is all we're looking at."
He added the school is ensuring social distancing measures are followed.
"We're following all the guidelines in regards to that, so we've broken up into smaller groups to do this and we've slashed Alvinston into different zones on where we'll be going so that we are following our social distancing rules in regards to this."
