Plympton-Wyoming mourns death of longtime councillor

A longtime Plympton-Wyoming councillor is being remembered for his passion and dedication to the community.

Mayor Lonny Napper said Ron Schenk passed away Friday after a courageous battle with cancer.

“This is a great loss for the town, and we’ve all lost a great friend," said Napper. "I know I speak for our entire council when I characterize him as a gentleman, a witty cohort and champion for his local community. Council will miss his jovial presence and ability to get to the heart of a matter. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

Napper said flags at the municipal office have been lowered to half-mast.

Schenk was elected to his fourth term in 2018.

During the course of his 14 plus years on council, he served on various committees including the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, Plympton-Wyoming Fire Executive Committee and the Lambton Historical Society.
