Sarnia-Lambton residents are being asked for donations of water toys so local kids in need can get outside and have some fun this summer.
Things like water guns, pools, inflatable toys, sprinklers, and even sunscreen are being accepted.
Organizer Kelly Hampton has been working with teachers from Sarnia's High Park Public School to make it happen.
She said the pandemic has forced many to stay inside.
"I've been able to get outside with my kids and hear them laugh and have fun, and I know a lot of kids are inside right now on electronics," she said.
"I couldn't figure out why my son kept downloading games but would never play them. I spoke with a doctor and he said it's actually a dopamine release. Every time they're sitting inside doing this, they're getting that release. It's messing up their ability to actually have fun."
Hampton said although the initiative is separate from the school's lunch program, the goal is at least 100 toys to help out every family that uses it.
Donations can be dropped off at High Park School on Kember Avenue between 11 a.m. and noon on Monday, June 8.
