A summer-long closure of a portion of Lakeshore Road in Sarnia is to start Monday, June 15.
Lakeshore will be closed between Modeland Road and Blackwell Side Road for 16 weeks, weather permitting.
Lambton County Construction Supervisor Glen Hamill said it's the first phase of a two-phase project.
"We're doing a reconstruction and widening -- the road will be widened 1.5 metres on each side, and at the same time, the City of Sarnia will be working on their watermain installation."
Hamill said there's lots of work to be done.
"At the moment, the shoulders are gravel and there's some surface-treated shoulders. We're going to pave them to make it a little better for multipurpose bikes and for pedestrians to be along there, give people a little more room while they're driving through the area as well."
No through traffic will be permitted for the duration of the project. Local residents will be able to access their properties, but at times access will be restricted or completely closed while work is progressing adjacent to their property.
The project was awarded to Birnam Excavating Limited.
