Michigan man drowns in Lake Huron

A 52-year-old Michigan man drowned Wednesday afternoon in Lake Huron.

The St. Clair County Sheriffs Office said Robert Esquibel of Burtchville Township was swimming with a friend at Lakeport State Park when he went under the water and did not resurface.

A call was made to 9-1-1 shortly before 4:45 p.m.

Police and fire responded and the man was recovered within about 15 minutes but despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.

The cause of death is being investigated but no foul play is suspected.
