Paraglider carrying man and child hits power lines in Michigan

A man and a child were rushed to hospital after their paraglider struck high tension power lines in Michigan Tuesday night.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said deputies responded to Palms Road in Casco Township west of Marine City just after 7:30 p.m.

A 69-year-old Clay Township man had taken off from a residence on a paraglider with a six-year-old passenger.

Police said the paraglider failed to gain altitude quickly enough, hit power lines, and crashed to the ground.

The man and child were taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital with undetermined injuries for evaluation.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board was notified of the incident and will be investigating.
