Driver's licence suspended after boat hits groyne

No injuries are reported after a boat with a three-year-old child on board hit a steel groyne at Canatara Park beach overnight.

Sarnia police were called to the area by witnesses at around 1:30 a.m. Monday, and saw a boat floating about 30 feet from shore.

The three adults onboard indicated they were fine, and the vessel left the area eastbound with no lights on.

The Point Edward Rescue Boat helped locate the damaged vessel about 40 minutes later between the Blackwell and Modeland Road beaches.

The 36-year-old male driver of the boat was taken to police headquarters for breath tests. He allegedly had 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millimetres of blood in his system, but under 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millimetres of blood.

He was issued a 72-hour driver's licence suspension and tickets for not having any lights on the boat and no safety equipment on the vessel contrary to the Canadian Shipping Act.

The boat was towed to a local marina.
