Two Lambton politicians throw hats in ring for warden

There's a race for Lambton County warden for the next two-year term.

Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber wants to serve a third term as the head of county council.

He said he has the time, commitment and experience to get through this challenging time.

"I think with what we have gone through this past year, there have been many challenges and I believe we have a good working relationship and understanding of what is going on," said Weber. "I know others can do that as well, but at this time I would like to offer that I am willing and able to continue on."

Weber was elected to serve on the newly amalgamated Lambton Shores Council in 2000, and was a councillor until 2010 when he was elected mayor — a position he’s held since.

Enniskillen Township Mayor Kevin Marriott, who is currently serving as deputy-warden, is running to be warden.

"I'm very proud to be part of the Lambton County system," said Marriott. "I think that we have a very good structure here and I think Lambton County has progressed well in the last few years and I'd like to see that continue."

Marriott said while Lambton County has a lot of opportunities between industry, tourism and agriculture, the region is facing challenges as well.

"There are going to be challenges with the aging population and what happens with long-term care because there's going to have to be a lot more beds available in the next 10-20 years, so we need to start planning for that."

Marriott has been the mayor of Enniskillen Township since 2012 and was first elected to Enniskillen Township council in 1994.

The warden's election will be held when county council meets for its inaugural session on December 2.

Candidates can announce their intentions to run right up until the election is held.
